FREKVENS Joriel

FREKVENS is an Innovitaskolan Joriel school project initiated and run by Magnus Allensten, Music Pedagogue and Teacher at the school.  Innovitaskolan Joriel is both a Compulsory School and a Compulsory School for Pupils with Intellectual Disabilities in Stockholm.

During the past academic year, in his music lessons, Magnus worked with his pupils with from four different classes to carry out a music project together with composer Anna Sóley Tryggvadóttir, Audiorama, and we were invited to contribute with a dance activity during the project week.

Under the guidance of Magnus, the pupils found and created sounds with musical characteristics that the pupils enjoy, sounds that engaged them and evoked positive reactions from them. Later, the sound bank was sent to Anna Sóley, who created new music with the sounds after meetings and conversations with the pupils. The composed music was then sent between Anna Sóley, the pupils, and Magnus to reflect on the pupils' responses, and to ensure that Anna Sóley had been able to specially adapt the music as much as possible for the pupils in both the creative process and composition.

During the project week back in May, the pupils continued to work with the music. Together with Audiorama and their multichannel speaker system, they were guided into a focused deep listening experience that transitioned into creative work with the school's art teachers and dancers from FUNKTIONARTS.

All of this took place in a wonderful sensory room created by the school's staff in the school's premises for these specific days.

We are happy and grateful to have been part of this beautiful and inspirational project, working alongside this talented and dedicated team and having the opportunity to connect with and work alongside these children.

FREKVENS is a project funded by the Skapande Skolan grants (Creating School) from The Swedish Arts Council  (Kulturrådet)
